The Weekly Comet 50 (comments and criticisms welcome)

School Back in Session Last, last, Wednesday morning, Rachel and Faith D. both awoke to the startling revelation that they were going to school. (Grace also started school that week, but since she was a freshman, she went in a day early.) This means that we now have Elijah D., (starting at Linn-benton community college in October), Rachel D., (going into her sophomore year at South Albany high-school), Grace D., (also starting at South but on her Freshman year), and Faith D., (starting in 7th grade at Memorial Middle-school) all in: (pause for dramatic effect) " The system." For those of you who lost track, that leaves the L.K.S at home to do....whatever the L.K.S does. Though our fantabulous summer has ended, there are many exciting things you can do in school. You can: (puns intended (look 'em up))
1. Complain about the food in the cafeteria 2. Break out in a song about your personal problems during basketball practice (P.S, get your head in the game) 3. Get detention 4. Form a spontaneous band in detention that's named after a fruit drink 5. And train your dog to eat your homework
A Trip to Cone Peak Last last last Sunday, Dad D. and a bunch of us DeVylderes (including Drake) climbed into the van on a mission: To climb Iron mountain. Of course, there was a lot of singing and debating, which ended up in an all out game of us trying to find the entire alphabet in signs on the road, and it was great fun. When we finally did stop, it was to eat an awesome lunch at foster lake, which can pretty much be summed up as us trying to contain Drake from jumping into the water, and an all out massacre over the protein bars. The second time we stopped it was to climb up Iron Mountain, or so we thought. As it turns out, (thanks to all the trees) it is extremely difficult to find your way in that area, so we ended up hiking to the top of a peak right next to it which (as was found out afterwards) was named Cone Peak and was 240 feet taller than the actual Iron Mountain. Was it tough? Of course. Was Keturah being carried most of the time? You bet. Were we NOT on any sort of trail whatsoever most of the time? That will be determined at a later date. But that's not the point. The point is that we got to take awesome king of the world photos at the top. Plus, on our way down we managed to get onto a trail which led to another trailhead, where we practiced our hitchhiking skills until Dad came back with the van. When this journey finally came to an end, and we drove home, (with the occasional breakout in disney songs.)
The Red Barn To just say the barn was painted anew would clearly be an understatement. "I have wanted to paint the barn for years,"(as Mom D. said when interviewed by local intrepid reporters) "but the weather was only getting colder, and the back of the barn was not closed off." Mom D. asked if we could borrow Ben R.'s sprayer, which ended up in Ben painting and priming the barn red mostly himself (Thanks Ben.) When the barn was finally finished (which took a remarkable only 2 days) it looked brand new, (which is extraordinary considering the barn's age.)
Pics are coming next week!
Kitnapper Due to recent evidence linking Grace D's kitten, Jet, to suspicious activity including scratching at non scratching posts and fraternizing with the dogs, there is a warrant for Jet's arrest. Consequently this means that the lovable furball's popularity has grown enormously, to the point where he has his own theme songs. Please enjoy this week's theme song video of the L.K.S (A.K.A the presidents of Jet's fan club):
